Why 21 Days of Prayer & Fasting?
As we begin a new year, and especially considering the days in which we live, it is our sense that prayer is more important than ever. The problem for most Christians, if we’re honest, is that we do not know how to pray. In addition, as we enter this New Year the elders have been sensing that we are entering another new season as a church. Over the next 21 Days we hope to hear from the Lord what His will is for us as a church. We believe this needs to start with each one of us and our own personal prayer life. We encourage you to commit to these 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting!
Plans for These Next 21 Days?
Week 1: We want to encourage everyone to begin by focusing on strengthening your person prayer life and relationship with your God as we learned Sunday from Matthew 6:5-13 (see message here). Jesus said, "But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.” Matthew 6:6 Start with getting to know Him more deeply on a personal level.
Week 2: In the second week we encourage you to again follow Jesus’ teaching on the Lord’s prayer in Matthew 6:9-13 where He changes the focus to ‘our’ and ‘us.’ Continue in your prayer time to pray for all of us as we endeavour to praise and keep holy His name, to petition Him to cause His kingdom to expand here in our own backyard first of all, to provide for all of our daily needs, to forgive us and out of that to cause us to pray for our world, the lost and persecuted around the world.
Week 3: Throughout these 3 weeks we also encourage everyone to be listening for the Lord’s leading and will for us as a church here in Squamish. Pray for wisdom and discernment about where we should be focusing our prayers and resources as a church, both personally in service and financially for 2025 and beyond.
Prayer & Worship Nights
In addition to our personal prayer & fasting throughout these 3 weeks and in our Missional Community Groups, we have planned 3 Prayer & Worship Nights every Sunday inviting everyone to join us in the first two weeks for an informal hour of Prayer & Worship where we pray and listen together. We then plan for our last night of the 21 Days, Sunday January 26th to invite you to a Prayer & Worship Summit Night, an extended time of Prayer & Worship when we will also want to hear from you and what the Spirit has been saying to you for our church in 2025. We hope you will join us.
Check out the resources we’ve put together here to help you learn why prayer is so important and then how to have an intimate conversation, one on one, with your Heavenly Father!
